Abstract

ABSTRACT

Aim: This study aimed to explore coaches’ experiences and evaluations regarding the use of sports technologies across different sports branches.

Material and Method: This qualitative study used a descriptive phenomenological design. Participants were selected through purposive maximum variation sampling and consisted of nine actively working coaches (6 males and 3 females) from different individual and team sports. Data were collected through semi-structured individual interviews and analyzed manually by a single researcher using content analysis within a descriptive phenomenological framework.

Results: Participants reported using various sports technologies, including video analysis systems, performance analysis software, physiological and physical performance measurement tools, and anthropometric assessment methods, particularly in performance evaluation, training planning, and competition processes. They perceived these technologies as useful for talent identification, individualized training, training-load regulation, and performance monitoring. Technology use varied in relation to economic conditions, institutional opportunities, educational background, and sport-specific characteristics, while some participants identified cost and accessibility as limitations. Participants also emphasized that technology should support coaches’ decisions. Regarding future developments, they anticipated a greater role for artificial intelligence-supported applications and video analysis systems in training and competition processes.

Conclusion: Within this study, participants perceived sports technologies as supportive resources for performance analysis, training planning, talent identification, competition processes, and individualized training. Their experiences suggest that technology use may vary according to economic conditions, institutional opportunities, coaches’ education, and sport-specific characteristics. Participants also viewed technology as a resource for supporting coaches’ decisions and anticipated that artificial intelligence-supported applications and video analysis systems may play a greater role in future sports environments.
